The Story of the Autograph
Joe Hesketh is a former left-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1984 through 1994 with the Expos, Braves and Red Sox.
Hesketh was born and raised in the Buffalo area in upstate New York and would stay in the area for college a the SUNY Buffalo which is now known as the University of Buffalo. He was one of their best pitchers in school history with a 1.77 ERA for his college career. He also played a role in some key wins over St. John’s and Frank Viola as well as a victory over nationally ranked Miami.
The Expos drafted Hesketh in 1980 and he would make his major league debut in August of 1984 for them. That’s notable because the first thing he did, before even throwing a pitch, was a balk. His 1985 year was one of his best ever with a 10-5 record in 25 starts and a 2.49 ERA. But that year ended early when he broke his leg in a collision at home plate. He would deal with other injuries during his time as an Expo which he finished out as a relief pitcher.
In 1990 after a short time in Atlanta and getting released, this after being released from Montreal, Hesketh moved on to the Red Sox and had a little comeback. In 1991 he had a comeback year as both a starter and reliever with the Sox. He put up a 12-4 record witha 3.29 ERA over 153.1 innings in 39 games and 17 starts.
Hesketh’s career numbers are a 60-47 record and 3.78 ERA in 339 games with 114 starts.
The Score on Joe Hesketh – 5.0
I sent five cards to Joe but only got two back. If I try again in the future I’ll definitely send less. This was my first time trying Joe as a TTM so I didn’t really have an idea what to expect. I live his autograph, but was definitely running out on the ’86 card and then just got buried in the dark jacket on the ’92 card.
Thanks Mr. Hesketh! I’m giving this return a 5.
