The Story of the Autograph

Joe Grahe is a former major league pitcher who worked mostly as a reliever in seven seasons from 1990 to 1999. He played with the Angels, Rockies and Phillies.

Grahe was born and raised in West Palm Beach Florida and attended the University of Miami to play college baseball. He was drafted three times before signing. First with the Brewers in 1986 out of high school in the 28th round, next by the Athletics in the fifth round of the 1988 MLB Draft, and lastly by the Angels in the second round of the 1989 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut with the Angels one year later on August 4, 1990.

In his first season, 1990, he pitched and started all eight games he played in. He went 3-4 with a 4.98 ERA and his first strikeout was Jose Canseco. He was a starter for some of the next season and eventually moved to a relief role. From there he work mostly in relief for the rest of his career but did make some starts.

He ended his seven year career with a 22-30 career record and 4.41 ERA.

The Score on Joe Grahe – 5.5

BraveSTARR Score LogoBraveSTARR Score 5.5

Joe has a simple, kind of “one spot” signature where he starts and ends everything in the same place. I think the “J” you can definitely make out, but the “G” not so much. It would have been a bit better score if I it was a little bit better marker but it just was either at the end of its days or the cards weren’t picking it up. I’ll definitely try him again with the ’92 and ’93 Upper Deck if I have them because they definitely show off his signature best of these.

Thanks Mr. Grahe! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
