The Story of the Autograph
Joe Cirella is a former defenseman in the NHL. He played from 1981 to 1996 with the Colorado Rockies, New Jersey Devils, Quebec Nordiques, New York Rangers, Florida Panthers and Ottawa Senators.
Cirella is a native of Ontario, Canada. He played junior hockey with the Oshawa Generals in the OHL and started there at 17. He was part of a team that won the OHL Championship in 1983. The Colorado Rockies selected him with the fifth overall pick in the 1981 NHL Draft. He played with the Rockies for one year before they moved to New Jersey and became the Devils. He bounched between Oshawa and Colorado/New Jersey until the 1983-84 season.
He then had solid years in New Jersey with his first full year being his best year, at least offensively. In that year he played in 79 games with career highs in goals (11), assists (33) and points (44). He would move on to Quebec in 1989 via trade. It was three years with the Rangers after than before bouncing around in the NHL, IHL, and in Germany.
The Score on Joe Cullen – 6.5
I love the angles that Joe puts on both his “J” and his “C”. It definitely gives his signature a bit of character. He also sort of stacks his signature, but not necessarily. Both of his names are on different lines but they aren’t right above/below one another. I think the 1990 Topps card came out the best of this bunch.
Thanks Mr. Cirella! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
