The Story of the Autograph
Jim Wohlford is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played for the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants, and Montreal Expos from 1972 to 1986.
Wohlford was born and raised in Visalia, California. He was first drafted in the eleventh round of the 1969 MLB Draft by the California Angels but didn’t sign. He went to college and was drafted by the Royals in the third round of the 1970 MLB Draft while at the College of the Sequoias in his hometown. He made his major league debut on September 1, 1972. His first two years he played sparingly.
He became a regular in 1974 but then slowly transitioned into more of a reserve outfield for the rest of his career in the majors. In that season he played in a career high 143 games with a .271 average, two homers, 44 RBI and 16 stolen bases. He would have one of his better seasons late in his career with the Expos. In 1984 he played in 95 games, hit a career high five home runs with 29 RBI and a .300 average.
For his career Wohlford hit 21 homers, had 305 RBI and had a .260 average.
The Score on Jim Wohlford – 6.5
Jim doesn’t seem to sign a lot of his name but he sure has an action-packed signature. It looks like mostly he does his initials, especially that “J”. The marker seemed to be running low on him though. I do like that I got him in almost every uniform he wore. I’ll have to see if I have one of him in a Royals uniform.
Thanks Mr. Wohlford! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
