The Story of the Autograph

Jim Palmer is a Hall of Fame right-handed starting pitcher. He played from 1965 to 1984 and spent his entire career with the Baltimore Orioles, winning three World Series Championships, three Cy Young Awards, four Gold Gloves and was an All-Star six times.

Palmer was born in New York and was adopted. The family moved to Beverly Hills and then eventually went to high school in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was signed by the Orioles in August of 1963 as an amateur free agent. He made his debut two years later on April 17, 1965. He showed promise and posted a 15-10 record with a 3.46 ERA in his second year in the bigs. Unfortunately he started to have some arm trouble and played sparingly in 1967 and not at all in the majors in 1968.

When he got back to the majors in 1969 and he started to show his Hall of Fame form. He won 20 or more games eight times between 1970 and 1978. Plus his sub-3 ERA and 150 strikeouts were a lock in those years. He won his three Cy Young awards in a four year span between 1973 to 1976.

But Palmer hasn’t just been about baseball. He was famously an underwear model for Jockey and was in magazines and on billboards. He also did commercials on TV and was a spokesperson in other areas as well. These days he’s part of the broadcast team for the Orioles. He’s not only one of the best Orioles of all time, but one of the best starting pitchers of all time as well.

Jim has a signature that looks like its filled with action. I especially love the “Super Veteran” card for these. I have others of that kind signed and unfortunately the player is on two different teams. I love that he’s on the same team on that card.

Thanks Mr. Palmer! This return gets a 7 overall.
