The Story of the Autograph
Jim Eisenreich is a former outfielder in the major leauges. He played from 1982 to 1998 with the Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals, Philadelphia Phillies, Florida Marlins, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Eisenreich was born and raised in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He even went to St. Cloud State University for college before being drafted by the Twins in the 16th round of the 1980 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut just two years later with the Twins on April 6, 1982. He played sparingly for the Twins through three seasons and temporarily retired from baseball (more on that later).
In 1986 he was claimed off waivers by the Kansas City Royals, he would stay in the minors for that first season with them, but then in 1987 he got some playing time and it picked up after that. He stayed with the Royals until moving on to the Phillies in 1993 as a free agent. That season he was a huge help to the Phillies in the quest for the NL Pennant and then in a losing effort to the Blue Jays in the World Series.
But Eisenreich would make it back there. In 1997 he went on to the Marlins and was part of the World Series winning team against the Indians. But the next season a blockbuster trade sent him to the Dodgers to finish out his career. He went to LA with Bobby Bonnilla, Gary Sheffield, Charlies Johnson and Manuel Barrios for Todd Zeile and Mike Piazza.
The reason for his temporary retirement early in his career was that he has Tourette Syndrome. During his time away from the game he got treatment. He later was awarded the Tony Conigliaro Award for overcoming a significant obstacle in his life. These days his foundation supports kids with Tourette’s.
The Score on Jim Eisenreich – 6.0
When you first look at it Jim seems to have a pretty fancy signature. Upon closer inspection it’s not a “tight” as something fancy like a Floyd Bannister or something like that. Still, he did a great job on the cards and I think the Phillies card is my favorite. I really need to try to find a Marlins card of his to try to boost my collection for that team.
Thanks Mr. Eisenreich! I’m giving this return a 6.
