The Story of the Autograph
Jason Tyner is a former major league outfielder. He played from 2000 to 2008 in all or part of eight seasons for the New York Mets, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians.
Tyner was born and raised in Texas. He went on to attend Texas A&M University and finished among their career leaders in hits, stolen bases and batting average, doing all that in just three seasons. He showed enough promise in college for the Mets to draft him with the 21st overall pick in the first round of the 1998 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut for the Mets just two years later on June 5, 2000.
Just a month after his debut, Tyner was traded along with Paul Wilson to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for Bubba Trammel and Rick White. He spent the next few years in Tampa but only played more than 46 games once, getting into 105 in 2001. His time in Tampa was notable for a failed bobblehead giveaway in which they were supposed to be given out but he was sent down five days before. The team held on to them and later gave them away to a foundation.
After going on waivers in 2003 and moving on to the Rangers, he wouldn’t appear again until he was with the Twins. This was after also moving on to the Braves and Indians. His most notable season with the Twins was in 2007 when he made it into 114 games and hit .286 with the lone homer of his career and 22 RBI.
He moved on to the Indians on a minor league deal and appeared in a few games before being released in 2008. After trying to keep making it back to the bigs with four more teams he called it a career.
The Score on Jason Tyner – 6.5
My favorite of these cards of Jason’s is the 2002 Topps card. The autograph came out well and on top of that it’s a Rays card. I’m still looking for more cards from teams I don’t have a lot of autographs from like the Rays so it’s nice to get those back. Plus that’s the old Devil Rays days too.
Thanks Mr. Tyner! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
