The Story of the Autograph
Jake Barret is a right-handed pitcher who played in the major leagues from 2016 to 2019 and last played in the Mexican League with Acereros de Monclava and Charros de Jalisco.
Barrett was born in California and grew up in Mesa, Arizona. As a junior he was All-State and played for the US National Baseball Team in the World Junior Baseball Championship. As a senior he helped his team to winning a state championship. The Blue Jays drafted him our of high school in the third round of the 2009 MLB Draft but he didn’t sign. Instead he went on to attend Arizona State University and play for the Sun Devils. He was drafted again in 2012 by the Diamondbacks in the third round of the MLB Draft.
After several years in the minors he made his major league debut on April 4, 2016. He worked in relief for 68 games that first season with 56 strikeouts in 59.1 innings pitched with a 3.49 ERA and 1-2 record. Unfortunately that would be the best chance he would get and his appearances went down in each year after that until the Diamondbacks released him in 2019.
He tried to make it with two teams before landing with the Yankees at the end of Spring Training that same year. He made it into a couple games but didn’t fare very well and the Yankees outrighted him after the season. He moved on to a couple teams in the Mexican league in 2020 but the COVID-19 pandemic caused a cancellation of the season and he played for the Sugar Land Skeeters who created an small independent league for last year.
The Score on Jake Barrett – 6.0
Jake has been part of my effort to get more of the expansion teams since 1993. As you can imagine the Diamondbacks and Rays who started in the late 90’s are the teams I have the fewest cards of. So it’s nice to add Jake to the pitching roster I have for them. Jake’s signature reminds me a lot of another Jake… Jake McGee.
Thanks Mr. Barrett! I’m giving this return a 6.
