The Story of the Autograph
Jackson Stephens is a pitcher in the Cincinnati Reds organization. He’s made appearances the last two seasons with the Reds in the majors.
Stephens is originally from Oxford, Alabama. He originally committed to play with the Alabama Crimson Tide but instead signed with the Reds when they drafted him in the 18th round of the 2012 MLB Draft. He made his debut with the Reds on July 1, 2017.
Prior to 2017 he was working his way through the lower ranks of the Reds system. He started in the Arizona League after being drafted and then moved on to the Dayton Dragons, Daytona Tortugas and Pensacola Blue Wahoos. The Reds added him to their 40-man roster after the 2016 season and since then he’s bounced from the Louisville Bats to the Reds.
In his first season in the majors he both started and worked as a reliever with four starts in seven appearances. In 2018 he only made relief appearances as he played in 29 games. In all of his appearances across 2017 and 2018 he went 4-4 with a 4.83 ERA in 36 games with four starts. In 2019 he spent the entire year with the Bats in Triple-A.

It’s always interesting to see how someone adjusts their signature for a smaller space on a shared card. In this case, it came out so much better on the 2018 Topps Heritage card simply because you can see it. The 2018 Topps base card is just so dark already. I love that “J” though because it so looks like a fish hook.
