The Story of the Autograph
Jack Perconte played second base for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, Seattle Mariners and Chicago White Sox. His career spanned from 1980 to 1986 and aside from his time in Seattle he was primarily a backup.
Perconte was drafted by the Dodgers in the 16th round of the 1976 MLB Draft. After some time in the minors he debuted on September 13, 1980. He only appeared in 22 games for the Dodgers over the 1980 and ’81 seasons. Then the Dodgers traded him to the Indians with Rick Sutcliffe for Jack Fimple, Jorge Orta and Larry White.
After playing in 93 games with the Indians that first year he only played 14 the next and was traded to the Mariners with Gorman Thomas for Tony Bernazard. In 1984 with the Mariners he had his best season. He played in 155 games and hit .294 with 31 RBI and 29 stolen bases. He had another good year in Seattle but after one more year with the White Sox he wouldn’t appear again in the majors.
Perconte has authored three books about baseball, coaching, and raising athletes. He teaches youth baseball and softball and has run 11 marathons.
The Score on Jack Perconte – 5.5
Jack has what I would refer to as a scratchy signature. It looks like he tries to find a good place to sign the card, like where he signed his arm on the ’83 Fleer card. But he isn’t so desperate to do that that he signed a weird spot on the other cards like some guys have done.
Thanks Mr. Perconte! I’m giving these cards a 5.5.
