The Story of the Autograph
J.T. Riddle is a infielder/outfielder with the Pittsburgh Pirates. His career in the majors started in 2017 and he’s played for the Marlins and now the Pirates.
Riddle was born and raised in Frankfort, Kentucky. He was named Mr. Kentucky in baseball and went on to attend the University of Kentucky and play ball for the Wildcats. He was first drafted in high school by the Boston Red Sox in the 35th round of the 2010 MLB Draft but didn’t sign. The Marlins then drafted him three years later in the thirteenth round.
After a few years in the Marlins minor league system he was invited to Spring Training first in 2016 and he was added to their 40-man roster. He began the next year in the minors too but was called up and debuted on April 11, 2017. Just five days later he hi a walk-off home run against the Mets for his first major league homer. He became the Marlins primary shortstop later that season but ended his season with a torn labrum.
He made it back for the 2018 and 2019 seasons but the Marlins ended up letting him go in free agency and he signed with the Pirates in January of this year (2020). So far this season he’s only made it into eight games for the Pirates and played two positions in the infield (third base and shortstop) and two positions in the outfield (center and right).
The Score on J.T. Riddle – 6.5
I’ve tried a couple times to get J.T’s signature and this is the first time that I’ve had any luck. And this is actually one of my very few successes from this Spring Training. I know he was signing from his home during the layoff so he was probably sitting down to catchup. His signature almost appears repetitive but it’s not. I think I see the “J.T.” but not sure about an “R”.
Thanks Mr. Riddle! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
