The Story of the Autograph
Isaiah Wilkins is completed college at the University of Virgina after last season and went undrafted. He joined the Rockets for the Summer League but was let go. He then joined the Charlotte Hornets for training camp but was waived in October. He is currently playing as a forward with the Greensboro Swarm of the G League (the Hornets’ G League team).
Wilkins was born and raised in Georgia and is the stepson of NBA Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins. He attended UVA from 2014 through 2018. He was never the best player on the team, but his role and playing time grew throughout his college career and be became an important cog on the Cavaliers team. In his senior year he started all 34 games for the Cavs and averaged 27.5 minutes. He shot jut under 50% from the floor and averaged six points per game. But more importantly for Tony Bennett’s team, he was a tremendous defender with 1.2 steals and 1.4 blocks per game. Defense is a staple for the Wahoos and Wilkins was named the 2018 ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
Virginia had a tremendous team last year and they were rolling and even attended the No.1 ranking in the AP Poll for the first time since 1982. Unfortunately for Wilkins, he was part of the first No.1 seed (and No. 1 overall at that) to lose to a No. 16 seed in the NCAA tournament when the Cavs lost to UMBC.
The Score on Isaiah Wilkins – 6.5
Isaiah signs with pretty good size on a magazine which is always nice to see. I was a little worried about this one because it’s so busy in the background. He did a good job signing over himself and found a clearer part of it to sign. It could have been a little more centered on him but that’s getting picky. It would have made it show up a tiny bit better. Always good to add another SI to the collection.
Thanks Mr. Wilkins! This one gets a 6.5.
