The Story of the Autograph
Gilberto Reyes is a former catcher in the major leagues. He played from 1983 to 1991 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Montreal Expos. He also played in 1992 with Mercuries Tigers in Taiwan.
Reyes is a native of the Dominican Republic. He was signed as a free agent by the Dodgers in January of 1980 and spent a few years in the minors before making his major league debut on June 11, 1983. While he played 19 games in that first season, he really just bounced up and down to the minors and never played more than 6 games in another season for Los Angeles. Before the 1989 season he was traded to the Expos for Jeff Fischer.
He continued to play in both the minors and majors with Montreal. He got into only four games in 1989 and then spent the 1990 season in the minors for the whole year. In 1991 he got his best shot in the majors, playing in 83 games. That year he hit .217 with nine goubles and thirteen RBI. But after playing on October 6, 1991, that was his last major league game in the U.S..
The Score on Gilberto Reyes – 6.5
This is a nice return from Gilberto. Being a guy that bounced up and down to the minors he never had a card, then in 1991 and 1992 he got a bunch. I’m not sure what others are out there but I sure like these. I think I’m torn between the 1991 Leaf (where I don’t like the design but the image is nice) and the 1992 Fleer Ultra as the best one.
Thanks Mr. Reyes! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
