The Story of the Autograph

Frank Stams had a remarkable football career that showcased his versatility and resilience. Born on July 17, 1965, in Akron, Ohio, Stams first made a name for himself at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. His prowess on the field earned him a spot at the University of Notre Dame, where he was a standout player and a key figure in the team’s 1988 National Championship win.

Stams transitioned to the NFL after being drafted in the second round of the 1989 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. Although originally a defensive end in college, he was converted into a linebacker during his NFL career. Stams played in the league from 1989 to 1995, with stints on the Rams, Cleveland Browns (twice), and Kansas City Chiefs. He also had time with the Carolina Panthers, but just never made the team.

Over the course of his career, he tallied notable defensive stats, including 184.5 tackles, two interceptions, and two sacks. His best years came with the Rams and Browns, where he regularly contributed to his team’s defense.

After retiring from football, Stams remained active in his community, participating in various local leagues and eventually being inducted into the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame for his athletic achievements in multiple sports. He now resides in Ohio, with his family, continuing his legacy both as an athlete and as a community figure.

This is my second successful return from him. To see the first successful return, check out my post from August 2020.

The Score on Frank Stams – 6.5

BraveSTARR Score LogoBraveSTARR Score 6.5

Frank has a pretty cool signature, but I think the marker let him down just a little bit. The blue marker would go really well with the Rams uniforms. But to really do that it would have to be a really strong marker. The 1991 Score card is the best example of how week the marker really is. But the 1991 Topps card is a pretty good one.

Thanks Mr. Stams! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
