The Story of the Autograph
Frank Catalanotto is a former utility player in Major League Baseball. He played from 1997 through 2010 with five different teams: Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers (two stints), Toronto Blue Jays, Milwaukee Brewers, and New York Mets.
Catalanotto was born and raised on Long Island in New York. He was drafted he 1992 by the Tiger in the tenth round of the draft after they discovered him while scouting other higher-profile players. But before he would make an appearance for the Tigers he actually moved to the A’s. The Tigers chose not to protect him in the 1996 Rule 5 Draft and the As picked him up. Since he didn’t make their team out of Spring Training he went back to the Tigers.
He played mostly the infield and pinch hit to start his career and slowly moved to playing more outfield, first base and DH toward the end of his career. His best season was probably 2001 while with the Texas Rangers. He hit appeared in 133 games and topped 500 at bats (he only did that twice in his career), but he posted his career high batting average at .330. He hit 11 homers, drove in 54 runs and stole a career high 15 bases that year.
Catalanotto moved around a lot and after getting to the Mets in 2010 he was designated for assignment in May of that season and decided to call it a career.
The Score on Frank Catalanotto – 6.0
Frank as a really zig zaggy style autograph. It came out really well on that Upper Deck card because the field is a great color for a background. It came out well on the Heritage card as autographs always do but with where he had to sign it it was just a little busy behind it. Plus there’s a little smudge/fingerprint too, but it’s minor.
Thanks Mr. Catalanotto! I’m giving these a 6.
