The Story of the Autograph
Frnak Bolick is a former first and third baseman in the major leagues. He played during the 1993 season with the Montreal Expos and in the 1998 season with the Anaheim Angels. He also played in the Japanese major leagues with the Chiba Lotte Marines
Bolick is a native of Pennsylvania. He was first drafted out of high school by the Expos in the 23rd round of the 1985 MLB Draft but didn’t sign with them. Instead he chose to go to college and play baseball for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. In 1987 the Brewers drafted him in the ninth round of the MLB Draft and he signed with them. He never made it to the majors with the Brewer though. In 1990 he was traded to the Mariners and then two years later he was traded to the Expos.
He made his major league debut on April 5, 1993. He made it into 95 games that season, the best chance he got in the majors. He hit .211 with four homers and 24 RBI. From there he bounced around a whole lot before he would appear in the majors again. He had stops with the Pirates, Rockies, Indians and Red Sox before getting a chance with the Angels in the 1998 season. He only played in 21 games that season and hit .156 with one homer and two RBI.
In 1999 he went to Japan and spent four years there. The team thought he could be their cleanup hitter but he didn’t hit very well to start. But eventually he came through and the Marines would have a great record when he hit a homer. But then he almost tied a record for at-bats without a hit when he went 0 for 51 to finish the season. He had his best season in 2001 and then he fell off a bit when the strike zone changed in 2002.
The Score on Frank Bolick – 6.5
Frank has a lot of action in his signature. You can see he also used two different color markers, which I always like. I know that prospect card is small but you can see he has different sized signature with the one on the 1993 Leaf card being smaller. The best card though is the 1993 Upper Deck card.
Thanks Mr. Bolick! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
