The Story of the Autograph
Ed Meador is a former defensive back in the NFL. He played at both cornerback and free safety from 1959 to 1970 and spent his entire career with the Los Angeles Rams.
Meador was born in Dallas, Texas but grew up in Arkansas. He played football, basketball, and track and won a state championship in football in 1954. He then went on to attend Arkansas Tech where he played on both sides of the ball. The Rams drafted him in the seventh round of the 1959 NFL Draft.
He started as a rookie and was the Rams Defensive Rookie of the Year. He went to the Pro Bowl in his next season and was an All-Pro. Those were the first of six Pro Bowls and four All-Pro selections (two First-team and two Second-team).
I would consider him a really great player that most people might not have heard of. He is still the Rams all-time interception leader and tied with the most fumbles recovered. He also has blocked the most kicks in team history. The NFL named him part of their All-Decade Team for the 1960’s. In addition to that, at the end of his career he was the NFL Player’s Association President. He was also NFL Father of the Year and won other awards too.
The Score on Ed Meador – 6.5
This is a tough one because these old cards don’t do a great job of taking a signature all the time. But Ed did a good job with it. In the end it had a great place for him to sign and his signature sticks out pretty well. I just wish I had more cards of his for him to sign.
Thanks Mr. Meador! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
