The Story of the Autograph
Ed Lynch is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues who worked as both a starter and a reliever. He played from 1980 to 1987 with the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs.
Lynch was born in Brooklyn, New York but went to high school in Miami, Florida. He went to the University of South Carolina and was then chosen by the Texas Rangers in the 22nd round of the 1977 MLB Draft. Before he could appear with them in the majors he was traded to the Mets toward the end of the 1979 season. He debuted the next season on August 31, 1980.
Those early years with the Mets he was on some pretty bad team. He started to improve as the team did and would go 10-9 with a 3.44 ERA in 31 games with 29 starts in 1985. In 1986 he made only one appearance with the Mets before going down with a new injury. By the time he could come back he had lost his spot as a starter to the up and coming Mets pitchers at the time. The Mets traded him to the Cubs mid-season and he finished his career in Chicago the next year.
He went on to get his law degree and became a general manager. In more recent years he was the pitching coach for the Long Island Ducks but left the team to spend more time with his family.
The Score on Ed Lynch – 7.0
Ed is a really good guy and has some great stories. He gets invited to the Mets broadcasts from time to time and you can tell that Ron and Keith really like him. I think I’ve heard them talk about him being a guy that they feel bad for that missed that World Championship in 1986 because of his circumstances with the injury and the trade. As for his signature, you can definitely see that “E” and then it all looks like one word from there.
Thanks Mr. Lynch! I’m giving this return a 7.
