The Story of the Autograph

Dwayne Henry is a former relief pitcher in the major leagues in the U.S., Japan and China. He played from 1984 to 1995 and spent time with the Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros, Cincinnati Reds, Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers. While in Japan he played for the Chunichi Dragons and then in Japan he played for the Wei Chuan Dragons and the Chinatrust Whales.

Henry was born in Maryland and raised in Delaware. He was drafted out of high school by the Texas Rangers in the second round of the 1980 MLB Draft. Four years later he made his debut for the Rangers on September 7, 1984. He spent five seasons in Texas with a few of those being up and down. The most appearances he ever had with them was 19 in 1986. The Rangers traded him to Atlanta before the 1989 season for a minor league and cash.

From there he really bounced around as a free agent to the other stops in his career. In 1994 he made his stop in Japan before coming back to the major leagues in the U.S. in the 1995 season with the Tigers. But it was back to Asia from 1997 to 2000 when he played in the Chinese Professional Baseball League. He did played in the minor leagues in those years as well and was playing in Newark and the Mexican League as late as 2001.

The Score on Dwayne Henry – 6.5

Dwayne has a pretty crazy signature. It’s sort of loopy I guess but that “H” definitely is a departure from the loopy style, pretty much because it isn’t a really loopy letter. He definitely fills up the cards but these are a bit busy where he signed. I think the other part about these you can see on the 1987 Donruss cards is where the marker was not running out but it sort of has those blank spots in it.

Thanks Mr. Henry! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
