The Story of the Autograph
Doug Fister is a former right-handed starting pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 2009 to 2018 with the Seattle Mariners, Detroit Tigers, Washington Nationals, Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers.
Fister is a native of Merced, California. He went on to attend Merced College, a junior college and was drafted in the 49th round of the 2004 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants. Instead of signing he chose to transfer to Fresno State. He was again drafted in 2005 by the Yankees but chose not to sign again. He returned to Fresno State for another year and was then drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the seventh round of the 2006 MLB Draft.
He made his major league debut on August 8, 2009. He showed some promise but his record didn’t show it in his first few years with the Mariners. But he did keep going up in their starting rotation slots. In the middle of the 2011 season he was traded to the Tigers. After the trade he was great. He started off with an 8-1 record in 10 starts with a 1.79 ERA and had a strong finish to the season. He was pretty good in the postseason too and helped the ALCS where they lost against the Rangers.
He had some injury trouble in 2012 but but finished with a solid record. In September of that season he would get nine strikeouts in a row against the Royals, one short of Tom Seaver’s record. The Tigers would get to the World Series but lose to the Giants. In 2013 he had his first overall winning season with a 14-9 record and a 3.67 ERA. He was traded to the Nationals in December of that year and the next season was his best yet. He put up a 16-6 record with a 2.41 ERA in 32 starts, by far his career year.
After the Nationals he bounced around to the Astros, Angels (where he never appeared in the majors and opted out of his minor league deal), Red Sox, and Rangers. His final appears was with Texas on June 8, 2018.
The Score on Doug Fister – 7.5
This one took a while and was sent back when he was playing. Doug has a nice signature. I think my favorite part about it on these is the way he signs his “F”. It’s just looks a bit more interesting than others I’ve seen. It almost looks like a mirrored “J”. The other thing I feel like on these is that they seem a bit more condensed than I remember his past signatures. But I think the good part about both of these is that the signature gets shown off pretty well.
Thanks Mr. Fister! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
