The Story of the Autograph
Doug DeCinces played in the majors, mostly at third base, from 1973 to 1987. During that time he played for the Orioles, Angels, and Cardinals. He was an All-Star, a Silver Slugger, and received MVP votes in two different years. After his time in the majors he spent one year playing in Japan for the Yakult Swallows.
Doug was born and raised in California. He actually played with Dwight Evans while he was growing up. He started out with the Orioles in 1973 as a September call-up and played in ten games. He only appeared in one in 1974, but after appearing in 61 games in 1975 he would be with the Orioles full-time until after the 1981 season. He had some big moments for the Orioles but his best season was probably 1978 when he played in 142 games and hit .286 with 28 homers and 80 RBIs, all highs for his time in Baltimore.
In 1982 he was moved to the Angels to make room for Cal Ripken Jr., but he finished third in the AL MVP voting that year and won a Silver Slugger award. It was the best season of his career with 153 games played, a .301 average, 30 homers and 97 RBI. The next year he made his one-and-only All-Star game.
The Score on Doug DeCinces – 8.5
Doug has a really great autograph. I like the way his “D” kind of circles the “oug” in his first name. Plus I think the two capital letters in is last name really work. That “C” has a great curly-q effect going on. Then the way he finishes his last name really closes it out well. at he used a great marker and it really stuck out well on these cards, especially the ’81 Topps. Normally on an Orioles card I would like the black because it goes better with the colors, but black wouldn’t have just mixed into what’s going on on this car.
Thanks Mr. DeCinces! I’m giving this one an 8.5.
