The Story of the Autograph

Don Kirkwood is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1974 to 1978 with the California Angels, Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays.

Kirkwood is from Michigan and attended Oakland Community College and Oakland University. The Angels signed him as an amateur free agent in 1972. After some successful time in the minors he made his major league debut on September 13, 1974. His first season plus was spend as a relief pitcher. In his most successful season of 1975 he went 6-5 with a 3.11 ERA in 44 games.

In 1976 he was part of the starting rotation and started 26 of the 28 games he pitched in. Unfortunately he went 6-12 with a 4.63 ERA and he wasn’t successful in that role. The next season he was back in the bullpen and was traded with John Flannery and John Verhoeven to the White Sox for Ken Brett. After finished that season he was released and signed by the Toronto Blue Jays where he finished out his career in relief in 1978.

The Score on Don Kirkwood – 5.5

Don has a bit of a small and thin signature. The best card it came out on is the 1979 Topps card. Unfortunately he was out of the league for that season. The other cards just have a bit too much business to show off his signature.

Thanks Mr. Kirkwood! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
