The Story of the Autograph
Derek King is a former left wing in the National Hockey League. He played in the league between 1986 and 2000. During those years he spent time with the New York Islanders, Hartford Whalers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and St. Louis Blues.
King is a native of Ontario, Canada. The Islanders selected him with the thirteenth overall pick in the 1985 NHL Draft. His first few years were solid with a increase in goals almost ever year. But it was 1991-92 that was his breakout season. That year he put up a career high 40 gales with 38 assists for 78 points and earned an All-Star nod. He would go on to have two more 30-goals seasons in the next two years.
He played a total of eleven seasons for the Isles before moving on to Hartford Toronto and St. Louis to close out his career after the 2000 season. After his playing days he went into coaching. He coach with NHL affiliates and junior league teams before earning his first shot in the NHL. In November 2021 the Blackhawks made him their interim head coach.

Derek has some places where the marker lifted a bit (you can see that on the 1990 Topps card) or the marker was a little light (like on the 1991 Bowman card). For the most part though the marker held up. I think while it’s not an action photo, the 1990 Topps is the best of the bunch because it shows it off the best.
