The Story of the Autograph
Dennis Gentry is a former wide receiver in the NFL. He played from 1982 to 1992 and spent his entire career in Chicago with the Bears.
Gentry was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas. He played for the Baylor University Bears in college and was then drafted by the Chicago version of Bears in the fourth round of the 1982 NFL Draft. While he is listed as a wide receiver, he really did a lot. He returned punts and kicks, and he also ran the ball too. In fact for the first four years of his career he did more of everything else except catching balls.
In 1985 he was a member of the Bears championship team. That included being a member of the “Chicago Bears Shufflin’ Crew” playing bass (or rather “playing bass” as he was faking it) in The Super Bowl video. He would be a First-Team All-Pro in 1986 for his kick returning ability and 28.8 yard average on returns. The following year he would be Second-Team All-Pro.
After his playing days he was a running backs coach in the XFL in 2001. That was until the league ended. He later scouted for the Lions.
The Score on Dennis Gentry – 8.0
This is such a great signature from Dennis. It has a good size and really fills up the card. But it also has a style to it. I love a good capital “G” and Dennis has that. I think the best of these is the 1990 Score card because the blue marker really sticks out on that one.
