The Story of the Autograph
Dean Evason is a former center in the NHL and currently the coach of the Minnesota Wild. He played from 1983 to 1996 with the Washington Capitals, Hartford Whalers, San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames.
Evason was born and raised in Manitoba, Canada. He was chosen by the Capitals in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft and a year later debuted for them, but only played in two games that year. During the 1984-85 season he played a few more games for them before they traded him along with Peter Sidorkiewicz to the Whalers for David Jensen. He would spend the rest of that season and the next six seasons in Hartford.
In 1985-86 and ’86-87 he put up 20 goals seasons with career highs in points with 48 and 59 points respectively. He would only ever come close to those point totals two more times in his career, but he still put up some solid seasons while he was in Hartford. He was traded two more time in his career that made up his next two moves: first to the Sharks for Dan Keczmer in 1991 and then to the Stars for a draft pick in 1993. He also played in Switzerland and Germany as well as for the Canadian National Team.
Evason got into coaching in the 90’s and worked for various teams in different capacities. He made his way into the NHL in 2005 with the Caps as an assistant. Then in 2012 he got a head coaching gig with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL. In 2018 he was back in the NHL with the Wild and in February of 2020 he became the interim head coach and eventually got the official gig. This past season he led them to 53 wins and a second place finish in the Central Division.
The Score on Dean Evason – 6.5
I think Dean might have been my first hockey coaching success. Or maybe he was actually my first hockey coaching attempt but not the first success back. It’s almost hard to tell but he has a stacked signature. I like the style of the autograph being thin but stacked at the same time. These were the cards I had to send but I do like that I had him with a Whalers jersey since that;s where he mostly played.
Thanks Mr. Evason! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
