The Story of the Autograph
Dave LaPoint is a former left-handed starting pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1980 to 1991 with the Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals (twice), San Francisco Giants, Detroit Tigers, San Diego Padres, Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, and Philadelphia Phillies.
LaPoint was born and raised in Glen Falls, New York. He was drafted by the Brewers in the 1977 MLB Draft out of high school. He made his debut on September 10, 1980. After five starts and one win he was traded to the Cardinals with David Green, Sixto Lexcano and Lary Sorensen for Rollie Fingers, Ted Simmons and Pete Vuckovich.
St. Louis turned out to be the biggest stint of his career with any one team (1981-1984). In 1983 and 1984 he had two of the better seasons of his career with back to back 12-win seasons. But after St. Louis he moved all over the place. That was mostly by trade in the beginning of his career and then as a free agent later.
In more recent year he’s managed in the minors with independent Atlantic League teams and then others.
The Score on Dave LaPoint – 6.5
Dave has an interesting start to his signature. The “D” really looks like and “L”. But then it looks like he writes his full last name too. In the end I like the sort of symmetry with the style of the “D” and the “P” and then the similarity of the “D” and the “L”.
Thanks Mr. LaPoint! This return gets a 6.5.
