The Story of the Autograph
Dave Butz is a former defensive tackle in the National Football League. He played for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Redskins over a 14 year career that lasted from 1973 to 1988.
Butz was born in Alabama but ended up in Illinois for his high school days. He went to Purdue for college and was the MVP of the Senior Bowl. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2014. In 1973 the Cardinals drafted him with the fifth overall pick.
After playing two seasons for the Cardinals, the Redskins traded two first-round and one second-round pick for him. He would go on to play for the ‘Skins for the next 14 years. During that time he was a Super Bowl champion twice, a Pro Bowler once, Defensive Player of the Year and part of the NFL All-80’s Decade Team.
The Score on Dave Butz – 6.5
Dave has a little bit of a messy signature, but he really fills up a card. His big marker really fits with the type of signature. I wonder what this would look like if he wasn’t working around his face?
Thanks Mr. Butz! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
