The Story of the Autograph
Darrell Jackson is a former left-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1978 to 1982 and spent his whole career with the Minnesota Twins.
Jackson was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He was originally drafted by the Twins out of high school in 1973 but chose not to sign. Instead he went to Arizona State to play baseball with the Sun Devils. He helped the team get to three consecutive College World Series appearances in his last few years in school. Then Minnesota came back to draft him in the ninth round of the 1977 MLB Draft.
He made it to the majors the next year in mid-season and debuted for the Twins on June 16, 1978. He went 4-6 with a 4.48 ERA for the rest of that season and then bounced between the majors and minors in 1979. His first and only full season in the majors was 1980 where he wen 9-9 with a 3.87 ERA in 32 games with 25 starts.
Unfortunately for Jackson shoulder issues kept him out of a good portion of the 1981 season and his performance fell off in 1982. He went to the minors but couldn’t get it back and the Twins released him. He never pitched in organized baseball after that.
These days Jackson runs a non-profit called the 1020 Club, Inc. which helps at-risk youth.
The Score on Darrell Jackson – 5.0
Darrell has a pretty nice signature but it looks like he signs his first name so big that it’s hard to fit his last name in the same style on the card. Unfortunately the marker was a bit on the outs for these as well. His signature definitely gets buried on the 1982 Fleer card.
Thanks Mr. Jackson! I’m giving this return a 5.
