The Story of the Autograph
Danny Farquhar is a former right-handed relief pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 2011 to 2018 with the Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago White Sox.
Farquhar was born and raised in Florida. After a good high school career he went on to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He continued his success there and it earned him getting drafted but the Toronto Blue Jays in the tenth round of the 2008 MLB Draft. He made his debut for them three years later on September 13, 2011, but that was not before being traded to the A’s in 2010 and then being traded back before the 2011 season.
In 2012 he moved around a lot to keep that theme going and it was all in June and July. It started with being designated to make room for another player and then he was claimed off waivers by the A’s, they waived him and the Yankees claimed him, then he was traded to the Mariners with DJ Mitchell in a deal that brought Ichiro to New York.
He finally settled in with Seattle for a few seasons from 2013 to 2015. But he would continue to move around. He went on to the Rays in 2016, then traded to the White Sox in 2017 and his last season was staying with the White Sox for 2018. That’s a lot of moving around in a seven year career.
There are probably two things you know Danny best for. The first might be that an incident of him pitching against the Astros in 2017 might be the first that we have of the official sign stealing scandal with the Astros from that year. The second is that in 2018, again against the Astros, he collapsed in the dug out after pitching. It turned out he suffered from a brain hemorrhage caused by a brain aneurysm. He didn’t pitch in the majors again after that.
These days he coaches in the minor leagues for the White Sox.
The Score on Danny Farquhar – 7.0
Danny has a cool signature, but it is a little small in the grand scheme. Autographs always seem to come out really well on Heritage cards though, and this is no exception. I was really glad to find him coaching and get a success from him.
Thanks Mr. Farquhar! I’m giving this return a 7.
