The Story of the Autograph
Curt Giles is a former defenseman in the NHL. He played from 1979 to 1993 with the Minnesota North Stars (twice), New York Rangers, and St. Louis Blues.
Giles was born in The Pas, Manitoba, Canada. He spent two years playing in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and then went to college at Minnesota-Duluth. He was then drafted by the Minnesota North Stars with the 54th overall pick in 1978. He debuted with them the following season and split time with their minor league affiliate.
Starting in 1980-’81 he was a fixute on the blue line for the North Stars. While he was never much of a goal scorer (six was his career high in 1983-’84 and 1985-’86) he did have some good assist totals during his first stint in Minnesota. In the first half of his career he had 20 assists or more in six of his first seven seasons.
He was moved to the Rangers along with a second round pick and Tony McKegney for a fourth round pick and Bob Brooke. He was traded back to the North Stars the following season for Byron Lomow and future considerations. Ultimately he spent twelve of his fourteen seasons in Minnesota. He played the final two seasons of his career in St. Louis, going there as a free agent.
The Score on Curt Giles – 6.5
These weren’t too bad for Curt to sign. As always, the 1990 Score Hockey card probably gave him the best chance to show off his signature and he didn’t disappoint. I would say his signature is “loose” in a way. I think you can still recognize it as his. The one thing that is too bad is that I always love a good capital “G” in cursive and he didn’t take advantage of that.
Thanks Mr. Giles! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
