The Story of the Autograph
Clint Zavaras, a former Major League Baseball pitcher, had a brief but memorable career. Born on January 4, 1967, in Denver, Colorado, Zavaras was selected in the third round of the 1985 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners. He made his MLB debut on June 3, 1989, and played his entire career with the Mariners, appearing in 10 games during the 1989 season.
As a right-handed pitcher, Zavaras started all 10 of his appearances that season, recording a 1-6 win-loss record with a 5.19 ERA over 52 innings. Despite his losing record, he showed promise, striking out 31 batters while walking 30. His most notable game came in his MLB debut against the Texas Rangers and Noland Ryan, showcasing his potential.
Unfortunately, injuries and inconsistencies curtailed his career, and he didn’t return to the majors after 1989. Though Zavaras’ major league stint was short-lived, he remained active in baseball, playing in the minor leagues and even representing Greece in the 2004 Summer Olympics. Today, he is remembered for his contributions to the Mariners and his resilience in the face of challenges on and off the field.
The Score on Clint Zavaras – 7.5
This is yet another example of a guy with a great signature, but not really much playing time to go with it. The 1990 Donruss cards are the best part of this return. It’s easy to read his signature, the marker is great, he filled up the card, and the blue goes well with the Mariners colors… all things I love.
Thanks Mr. Zavaras! I’m giving this return a 7.5 overall.
