The Story of the Autograph
Chris Hammond was a left-handed pitcher in the major leagues from 1990 to 2006. He played in Cincinnati (two stints), Florida (two stints), Boston, Atlanta, New York (with the Yankees), Oakland and San Diego. He worked part of his career as a starter and the other part in relief.
The Reds drafted Hammond in 1986 in the sixth round. He made his first appearance with the Reds on July 16, 1990. He only pitched three games that first year and his official rookie season he pitched in 20 games and started 18 going 7-2 wit a 4.06 ERA. The Red traded him to Florida and he pitched for the Marlins during their inaugural season. He continued to work mostly as a starter in those years and slowly worked into more of a relief role.
Hammond retired in 1998 after having shoulder surgery and spent time with his family. Then in 2001 he attempted to come back and made the Braves major league roster in 2002. He worked strictly in relief after that and had a few great years in the pen, each year with a different team. He finally ended is career in Cincinnati in 2006 after being released mid-season.
The Score on Chris Hammond – 7.5
Chris has a really strong autograph and it came out great on these cards. He used the a lot of the card with that long tail on the end of his last name and gets those nice and big initials in.
Thanks Mr. Hammond! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
