The Story of the Autograph
Charlie Leibrandt is a former left-handed starting pitcher in the major leagues. His fourteen-year career spanned from 1979 to 1993. During that time he played for the Cincinnati Reds, Kansas City Royals, Atlanta Braves, and Texas Rangers.
Leibrandt was born in Chicago, Illinois. He went to college at Miami University in Ohio from 1975 to 1978. The Reds drafted him in the ninth round of the 1978 MLB Draft and he would make his first appearance for them the following season on September 17, 1979. He would even make his first postseason appearance that year in the 1979 NLCS. He alternated years with significant appearances for the Reds in the first four years and was then traded to the Royals for Bob Tufts in the middle of the 1983 season.
He became a quite successful pitcher in his six years with the Royals. He only had one season without a winning record with his high point being the 1985 season when he went 17-9 with a career low 2.69 ERA. That was also the season that he helped the Royals to a the postseason as they won the World Series that year. He would later help the Braves reach the postseason two more time before the end of his career.
But for as well as he would pitch in the regular season, Leibrandt never had much success in the postseason. He only won one game, that being in the 1985 ALCS. In five seasons of postseason starts, 13 games in all, he would go 1-7 with a 3.77 ERA.
The Score on Charlie Leibrandt – 6.5
Charlie doesn’t have too much of a signature. I wouldn’t say it’s small, but it is on the smaller side as signatures go. I do love that the blue marker goes so well with the Royals and Rangers uniforms. I’d really like to try to get him in a Braves uniform as well. I think I sent him $20 and four cards and he must charge $10 per because he only signed two of my cards.
Thanks Mr. Leibrandt! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
