The Story of the Autograph
Carlos Garcia is a former infielder in the major leagues. His ten-year career lasted from 1990 to 1999 and during that time he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Toronto Blue Jays, Anaheim Angels, and San Diego Padres.
Garcia is a native of Venezuela. The Pirates signed him as an amateur free agent January of 1987 when he was 19 years old. He debuted three years later on September 20, 1990. He was in the majors sparingly for his first three years and then got a good shot in 1993. He was originally a shortstop but was behind Jay Bell on the depth chart and the trade of Jose Lind meant second base presented an opportunity.
In his rookie season he played in 141 games and hit .269 with twelve homers and 47 RBI. That got him a few Rookie of the Year votes and was one of if not the best year he had in the majors. He played well the next year as well and made his one and only All-Star team. He continued to have pretty good years with the Pirates through 1996.
He was traded to the Blue Jays and that kind of started the end of his career. He spent a year in Toronto, Anaheim and San Diego before playing his last game on April 15, 1999. Since 2005 he’s been coaching and managing for a few different organizations. His most recent assignment was in the Mexican League.
The Score on Carlos Garcia- 6.0
Carlos doesn’t have much of a signature does he? You can definitely see the “C”, or is it the “G”? You would think it would be his first name with the tail of it probably representing his last name. But it could be the “G” and be just his last name. Either way, there isn’t much to it.
Thanks Mr. Garcia! I’m giving this return a 6.
