The Story of the Autograph
Brian McRae is a former outfielder in the major leagues. The son of former major league Hal McRae, he played from 1990 to 1999 with the Kansas City Royals, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, Colorado Rockies, and Toronto Blue Jays.
McRae was born in Bradenton, Florida and went to high school in Florida and Missouri. He was second-team All-State in Missouri in baseball and first-team All-State in football. He was ready to go to the University of Kansas to play both sports but the Kansas City Royals drafted him in the first round of the 1985 MLB Draft with the seventeenth overall pick he changed his mind.
He took some time getting up the ranks in the minors because he wasn’t always a great hitter, but he did have speed and could steal bases. In Spring Training before the 1987 season he and his father were the first father-son duo to appear in a major league game. He made his major league debut on August 7, 1990. His father became the Royals manager in 1991 and he had the center field role.
His best years were from 1993 to 1996 during his last years with the Royals and his first year with the Cubs. In those years he hit between .273 and .288, hit over twelve homers three out of four years, between 40 and 69 RBI every year and stole between 23 and 37 bases each year. He would end up being traded four times in his career including twice in 1999.
After his playing career was over he worked in broadcasting some and was active with a few charities.
The Score on Brian McRae – 7.5
There are so many things to like about this return. First that blue marker with all that Royals blue is just amazing. Then these all came out really nice and his signature is really cool. I think my favorite might be that 1991 Score card. I think next time I attempt with him I need to try to include him with some of the other uniforms he wore.
Thanks Mr. McRae! I’m giving this return a 7.5 overall.
