The Story of the Autograph
Brad Ziegler entered the Major Leagues in 2008 and has pitched for four teams: A’s, Diamondbacks, Red Sox and Marlins. He’s definitely got his own style as not many pitchers these days throw “submarine” style anymore.
Since coming into the majors he’s been pretty good for a reliever. He’s one of those guys that may not be your best reliever, but usually he’s pretty reliable and with his different style of pitching he can be a great change of pace from others on the staff. While with the A’s he set an American League record for scoreless innings to start his career with 23. That was a record that had stood since 1945. Then with a few more innings under his belt he got to 25 to set the Major League record that stood since 1907. He later set a scoreless innings streak record for an Oakland pitcher at any time in his career by reaching 38 scoreless.
Ziegler has always had a pretty good ERA too. He’s had only four years in which his ERA is over 3 (2009, 2010, 2014 and 2017). But he’s also had two years with an ERA in the one range. His career ERA is 2.61. He as a winning record and has compiled 95 saves over his career.
Something else to like or root for Ziegler for… he’s an avid collector of baseball cards!
The Score on Brad Ziegler – 6.0
I’m glad that I ended up fixing this one. I originally sent it out to the old Marlins address (as I did with some others) in an Excel spreadsheet auto-fill snafu. But I got it to the new place and now returned to me. I find it really interesting that I found two of Ziegler’s cards that were landscape. I guess that fits when you throw side-armed or are a submariner. It just so happened that they were the only doubles I had for him.
Ziegler has a pretty good signature. The “B” is great, but after that it’s a bit jumbled. I still kind of dig it though. Somehow it looks very character-like to me instead of letter-like (like Japanese characters or something). He uses a great marker and his signature is pretty big. I was a little torn on these though. The one that works the best is the ’16 Topps card, but it has a smudge. So I’m basing a lot off of the other. But the business of that card makes it a little less effective. I find it interesting that he used two different bible verses. I think normally when I see a guy use a verse and he signs multiple cards he signs the same on all. But now that I’m thinking about it, I’ve received less recently with bible verses.
Thanks Mr. Ziegler, these get a 6.
