The Story of the Autograph

Bob Randall is a former second baseman in the major leagues. He played from 1976 to 1980 and spent his entire career in the big leagues with the Minnesota Twins.

Randall is a native of Kansas. After high school he stayed in state and attended Kansas State University. He was selected in the draft three times before he signed with a team. The first time the Dodgers drafted him out of high school in the 55th round. Then the Dodgers selected him again in 1968, this time in the seventh round. Finally the Dodgers figured the third time would be the charm in the second round of the 1969 MLB Draft. After all that be wouldn’t ever play with the Dodgers as they traded him in the 1975 offseason for Danny Walton of the Twins.

Randall made his major league debut on April 13, 1976. He was in the lineup right away and played a career high 153 games that season. That was due to Gene Mauch, the Twins’ manager moving Rod Carew to first base and he beat out Jerry Terrell for the job. He hit .267 with his only career home run and drove in a career high 34 runs. It was pretty much downhill from there though as his playing time dropped off over the remaining years he was with the Twins.

After his playing career he coach in the college. He was the head coach for Iowa State from 1985 to 1995. Then he moved on to the Kansas Jayhawks from 1996 until 2002. More recently he’s coached for Manhattan Christian College.

Bob really fills up the card with ink. Unfortunately I think 1979 cards aren’t always a good card to put ink on and these didn’t come out so great. I think there are some smears and issues with the marker on her too.

Thanks Mr. Randall! I’m giving this return a 4.5 overall.
