The Story of the Autograph

Bob Molinaro is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played for eight seasons from 1975 to 1983 with the Tigers (twice), White Sox (twice), Orioles, Cubs, and Phillies.

Molinaro is a native of Newark, New Jersey. He was drafted in the second round of the 1968 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers. Seven years later he made his debut as a September call-up on September 18, 1975. Given it was the very end of the season he only played six games and then was back in the minors for all of 1976. He played a single game for the Tigers in 1977 and then was selected off of waivers by the White Sox in September that year.

In 1978, his first full season in the majors he played in 105 games for the White Sox and batted .262 with six home runs, 27 RBI, and 22 stolen bases. He bounced to the Orioles for the 1979 season and then was back with the White Sox in Chicago in 1980 to play in 119 games where he hit .291 with five homers, 36 RBI, and 18 stolen bases.

He bounced around a whole lot from there and never really played much more than half a season’s worth of games in any year. After his playing career he went on to manage in the minors for four different teams in four different leagues.

The Score on Bob Molinaro – 5.5

Just going by the autograph of the 1982 Topps card, Bob’s autograph hasn’t changed all that much, if at all. The aren’t too bad in the grand scheme, but there was a bit of a false start on one of the ’81 Fleer cards and he kind of signed over the start of him signing with maybe a bad marker. So that takes the overall score down a bit for me. One thing I see that Bob does is try to find a good place to sign on the card. You can see that on the 1983 Topps card.

Thanks Mr. Molinaro! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
