The Story of the Autograph

Bob Horner is a former corner infielder in the major leagues. He played during ten seasons between 1978 and 1988. Most of his years were spent witht he Atlanta Braves and his final season was with the St. Louis Cardinals. He also played in Japan in 1987 with the Yakult Swallows.

Horner was born in Kansas but grew up in Arizona. After setting records in high school he went on to play for Arizona State in college. He would be the first winner of the Golden Spikes Award for being the best player in college. He was also the MVP of the 1977 College World Series. The Braves made him the first overall pick of the 1978 MLB Draft. He would make his major league debut later that year on June 16, 1978.

He came into the league with Dale Murphy and gave the Braves a great duo of rookies. In his rookie season he played in 89 games and his 23 homers with 63 RBI and a .266 average. That earned him Rookie of the Year honors. He was always a great power hitter and hit a career high 35 homers in 1980. He was named to his one and only All-Star team in 1982.

Horner was caught up in the MLB collusion scandal in 1986-87 where it was found that owners were sharing information during free agent negotions. During that time he went to Japan before returning for one more year. In St. Louis he could beat the injury bug and retired.

The Score on Bob Horner – 7.0

Bob has an almost wacky signature to start. Part of that is the style he has but also because it looks like there’s just letters on top of each other. The thing I don’t like about the cards I used for this return is that he didn’t actually play in either of these seasons. Not just not with those seasons but he wasn’t in MLB for those years. I’ll have to look for some good cards to try again with Bob.

Thanks Mr. Horner! I’m giving this return a 7.
