The Story of the Autograph

Blake Snell is an All-Star left-handed pitcher with the Tampa Bay Rays. He’s been in the league for three seasons, all with the Rays and this year he’s been having an amazing year.

Snell was born-and-raised in Washington and had an amazing senior season in high school. Any time you can have more than double the strikeouts than you had innings pitched I think something is going right. In his senior season he had 118 Ks in 56 innings that helped him build an 8-0 record. He committed to Washington State but never became a Cougar. He was drafted in 2011 by the Rays.

After a few good years in the Rays farm system, Snell was promoted to the bigs on April 23, 2016 and made his debut at Yankee Stadium. After allowing a run in the first off of a wild pitch, he struck out the side in the second and retired 12 of the last 14 batters he faced. That year he got to a 6-8 record with a 3.54 ERA. In his second year he was having issues with efficiency and often couldn’t make it into the sixth inning. He went back to the minor and it helped and he finished strong to reach a 5-7 record with a 4.04 ERA.

This year Blake seems to have found IT though. He’s currently 12-5 with a 2.27 ERA through 20 games and 119 innings pitched. He’s also already topped his career season strikeout total with 134 so far. In his first career start in Seattle (his hometown) he struck out the first seven batters he faced and allowed no runs in six innings. Clearly he was amped for that start with all his friends and family in attendance. It was all good enough to earn him an All-Star appearance this year. He was an injury replacement which is a shame because he should have been voted directly in.

The Score onĀ Blake SnellĀ – 4.5

This just wasn’t the greatest card for Blake to sign. I went through my cards to find some of his and this was the only double I had. I hate it when you think you remember a bunch of doubles and then you can’t seem to find what you thought you had. This one is just way to dark though. Blake has kind of a scratchy signature in there somewhere.

Thanks Mr. Snell! I’m giving a 4.5 this time and I’ll find you some better cards to sign.
