The Story of the Autograph

Bill Schroeder is a former catcher in the major leagues. He played from 1983 through 1990 with the Milwaukee Brewers and the California Angels. He currently works as a broadcaster in Wisconsin for the Brewers.

Schroeder was born in Maryland but grew up in New Jersey. He earned All-State honors in baseball during high school and went on to attend Clemson. While with Clemson he helped them to the ACC Conference Championships in 1978 and 1979. The Brewers drafted Schroeder in the eighth round of the 1979 MLB Draft. After a few years in the minors he made his major league debut on July 13, 1983.

He was usually a platoon or bench player during his career. He held a Brewers rookie record for the fastest to reach 15 home runs, which he did in only 71 games, until in was later broken by Ryan Braun. He was part of “Team Streak” in 1987, the Brewers team that tied a record by winning their first 13 games. That same year he caught the only no-hitter in Brewers history by Juan Nieves.

Schroeder was traded to the Angels before the 1989 season. He didn’t play much and wasn’t as productive with them and was released in 1990 and then retired.

The Score on Bill Schroeder – 6.0

Bill has what I would call a “one word” signature. He looks like he just combines his full name into one word. But then when I look at it, I can’t figure out where par of his name is. I really don’t have any idea where the “S” is, or a bunch of other letters for that matter. The 1989 card wasn’t as solid for some reason.

Thanks Mr. Schroeder! I’m giving this one a 6.
