The Story of the Autograph
Bill Gullickson is a former right-handed starting pitcher in the major leagues. He played for fourteen seasons between 1979 to 1994 with the Montreal Expos, Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers. He spent two years with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan.
Gullickson was born in Minnesota and grew up in Illinois. He was drafted with the second overall pick out of high school in the first round of the 1977 MLB Draft by the Expos. He made his major league debut two years later on September 26, 1979. He only played in one game that first season but the following season he went 10-5 in 24 games with 19 starts and finished second to Steve Howe in the Rookie of the Year voting.
He would continue success with the Expos. After two losing seasons he would put together three consecutive winning seasons and continued that as he went to Cincinatti in 1986. His best year was in 1991 when he had a career high and league leading 20 wins with nine losses and a 3.90 ERA in his first year with the Tigers.
Gullickson dealt with diabetes and while in Japan was recognized for his overcoming it to play. He also influenced others like Sam Fuld to play while dealing with it.
The Score on Bill Gullickson – 6.5
Bill has played for a bunch of teams and it seems that I got him represented on all of them in this return. That doesn’t happen all the time. Usually because I don’t have the cards for it. These all came out really clean, but I don’t know if all the cards are showing his signature off very well. I think my favorite is the 1981 Topps Record Breaker card.
Thanks Mr. Gullickson! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
