The Story of the Autograph

Bill Castro is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1974 to 1983 with the Milwaukee Brewers, New York Yankees, and Kansas City Royals.

Castro was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. The Brewers signed Castro as an amateur free agent in 1970 and he would make his major league debut four years later on August 20, 1974. He spent most of his career with the Brewers and was used mostly as a reliever.

Because he was a reliever, there aren’t a lot of things that stick out in his stats. He did go 8-6 in 1977 if you are a record person. He also put up a career best 1.81 ERA if that’s more your thing.

After his time with the Brewers he moved on to the Yankees as a free agent. They traded him before the next season the the Angels, but he never appeared for the Angels and was released by them after just a couple weeks. He then moved signed with a few teams and only appeared with the Royals after that.

Castro was a coach after his time as a player. That included a long stint with the Brewers and some time with the Orioles. He also was the pitching coach for the Dominican Republic WBC team in the inaugural WBC.

The “Bill” part of Bill’s signature looks pretty standard. I say this as another Bill who is also pretty standard. What I find interesting is his “C”. It looks like it’s at an odd angle and oddly loopy. It’s totally different than the rest of his letters.

Thanks Mr. Castro! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
