The Story of the Autograph
Bert Roberge is a former right-handed relief pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1979 to 1986 with the Houston Astros, Chicago White Sox and Montreal Expos.
Roberge was born and raised in Maine. After high school he went to the University of Maine. While there he set the school record for career ERA at 1.82. The Astros drafted him in the 17th round of the 1976 MLB Draft. He debuted for the Astros on May 28, 1979.
In his first season he pitched in 26 games with a 3-0 record and 1.69 ERA. But he struggled a bit after than and he was mostly up and down in their organization. He didn’t even play in the majors in the 1981 or 1983 seasons. He moved on to the White Sox as a free agent and then he was traded to the Expos where he spent the last two seasons of his major league career.
These days he lives back in his home state of Maine.
The Score on Bert Roberge – 4.0
There are a couple of things going against Bert on this one. First, he used ball point pen. I tend to mark against that in general unless the signature is something special. But second, he has a small signature. Other guys have has small signatures, but there isn’t much about this one that really puts it over the top. Still appreciated though.
Thanks Mr. Roberge! I’m giving this return a 4.0
