Andy Stankiewicz’s baseball career is a story of perseverance, versatility, and a lifelong passion for the game. Known for his grit as a player and his leadership as a coach, Stankiewicz has contributed to baseball in multiple impactful ways.

Andrew Neal Stankiewicz was born on August 10, 1964, in Inglewood, California. He attended Pepperdine University, where he became a standout player. His strong defensive skills, solid batting, and hustle on the field made him a valuable asset. After an impressive college career, Stankiewicz was selected by the New York Yankees in the 12th round of the 1986 MLB Draft.

Stankiewicz made his MLB debut on April 11, 1992, with the New York Yankees. His rookie season was his best, as he appeared in 116 games, primarily as a shortstop and second baseman. He batted .268 and provided a steady glove and versatility in the infield.

Over his seven-year MLB career, Stankiewicz played for several teams, including:
• New York Yankees (1992-1993)
• Houston Astros (1994-1995)
• Montreal Expos (1996-1997)
• Arizona Diamondbacks (1998)

Known for his utility role, Stankiewicz could play multiple infield positions and served as a reliable option off the bench. He finished his career with a .241 batting average, 4 home runs, and 59 RBI over 429 games. His adaptability and work ethic earned him respect in every clubhouse he joined.

After retiring as a player, Stankiewicz found a new calling in coaching and player development. He began working as a minor league coach and manager within the New York Yankees organization. His coaching career included managing the Staten Island Yankees (Short-Season A) and contributing to the development of young prospects.

In 2011, Stankiewicz became the head coach at Grand Canyon University (GCU) in Phoenix, Arizona. Under his leadership, the GCU Antelopes transitioned to Division I and quickly became a competitive program in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). His coaching philosophy focused on discipline, fundamentals, and developing well-rounded student-athletes. Stankiewicz’s success at GCU earned him recognition as a top collegiate coach. He helped guide numerous players to professional careers, further establishing his reputation as a strong leader and mentor. In 2022 he moved on to USC.

Andy Stankiewicz’s influence on baseball extends beyond his playing days. As a coach, he has positively impacted young athletes, teaching them not only about baseball but also about leadership and character. His ability to translate his own experiences as a utility player into coaching wisdom has proven invaluable. His story is a reminder that success in baseball is not solely defined by statistics but also by the ability to inspire and lead others. Stankiewicz has built a legacy of hard work, perseverance, and giving back to the game he loves.

From his days as a scrappy infielder in the majors to his current role developing future stars at GCU, Andy Stankiewicz embodies the spirit of baseball—where heart and hustle can create a lasting impact.

The Score on Andy Stankiewicz – 7.0

Andy has a pretty good signature. He certainly has enough name to give it a go anyway! He doesn’t sign his whole name and really just hits the highlights. But these came out really great. I think my favorite of the bunch is the 1993 Score card. I really like that simple design but it looks like that one is the biggest signature comparatively and I love that image of his hustle on that one.

Thanks Mr. Stankiewicz! I’m giving this return a 7 overall.

This is my second successful return from him. To see the first, check out my post from May 2020.
