The Story of the Autograph
Al Fitzmorris is a former right-handed starting pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1969 to 1978 with the Kansas City Royals, Cleveland Indians, and California Angels.
Fitzmorris was born in Buffalo, NY but would be in San Diego for his high school years. He was first signed by the Chicago White Sox as an amateur free agent before the 1965 season. Before he could make his major league debut he was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in 1968 in the expansion draft. He then made his major league debut for the Royals on September 8, 1969.
He spent 1969 to 1976 with the Royals with his best years being 1973 though 1976. He put up winning records in each of those years and consistently had a high 2 and low 3 ERA. He was selected in another expansion draft in 1976, this time for the Toronto Blue Jays. But he never appeared for them because they traded him to the Cleveland Indians the same day he was chosen for Alan Ashby and Doug Howard.
He last appeared for the Angels in 1978 and then tried to continue with the Padres in 1979 but never appeared with them that year before retiring.
The Score on Al Fitzmorris – 5.5
Al seems to have a pretty fancy signature. I always feel bad that those 1976 cards have a facsimile signature on them that gets in the way. That card would have looked great with just a real signature on it. I think the part that make this return a little lower score was that the 1979 Topps card looks good in this picture, but it’s a little bubbly and didn’t com out really clean.
Thanks Mr. Fitzmorris! I’m giving this return a 5.5.

’75, that card is from ’75. 🙂
Fitzmorris is a favorite of mine from when I was a kid, I really liked his ’76 Topps card for some reason. Later, when I found he was from Buffalo, he became a favorite again.
I figured you would love the ’75. I have to admit the color combo on that one with the Royals colors is pretty great.
