The Story of the Autograph
Adam Piatt is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 2000 to 2003 for the Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Piatt was born in Chicago, Illinois. He went to high school in Florida and then went on to Mississippi State University. He was part of Bulldog teams that made multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, led them in batting average in 1996 and was second-team All-SEC in 1997 when they go to the College World Series. He was drafted twice. The first time was by the Mets while he was in high school via a tenth round pick in the 1994 MLB Draft. The second was by the A’s in the eighth round of the 1997 MLB Draft.
He made his major league debut on April 24, 2000. He played 60 games in that first season and only played more than that once in 2003 when he made it into 61. He hit .299 with five homers and a career high 23 RBI while in the majors that year, but mostly bounced up and down to the minors. He was part of the A’s 2000 and 2002 postseason rosters where they lost in the ALDS to the Yankees and Twins respectively. In 2003 he was put on waivers and moved to the Devil Rays mid-season. He tried to make it with the Indians after than but never appeared in another major league game.
Piatt was named in the Mitchell Report and admitted to steroid use. He said he used HGH to come back from viral meningitis.
The Score on Adam Piatt – 6.5
Adam has a kind of small signature, but it looks really cool. I love the style he has on his “A”. I also love hos the loop on that compliments the loop on the “P”. I think my favorite of these is the 2003 Upper Deck card. That one is a good combo of good picture and good signature.
Thanks Mr. Piatt! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
