The Story of the Autograph
Aaron Laffey is a former left-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He pitched as both a starter and a reliever during his career. He played from 2007 to 205 for the Cleveland Indians, Seattle Marinters, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays (twice), New York Mets, and Colorado Rockies.
Laffey was born and raised in Cumberland, Maryland. While he had committed to Virginia Tech, he was drafted out of high school by the Indians in the 2003 MLB Draft and chose to sign. After four years in the minors he made his major league debut on August 4, 2007. He played in nine games that season, starting all of them. He went 4-2 with a 4.56 ERA in 49.1 innings.
Over the next two seasons he maintained about that level of performance with Cleveland. In his fourth year he was moved into more of a bullpen role and had just about the same level of success. He was traded to the Mariners during Spring Training in 2011 and was designated for assignment in August. The Yankees then picked him up. But they would designate him as well before the season was over.
Over the next several years he moved around quite a lot. He had stints with the Mets and Blue Jays in 2012 and 2013, then he was out of the majors and bounced around a lot. He found his way back with Colorado for three games in 2015, but played his final major league game with them on July 31, 2015. In recent years he’s played in the Mexican League and the Atlantic League. He officially announced his retirement after the Mets picked him up and he was playing with their Las Vegas club at the time.
The Score on Aaron Laffey – 7.5
There’s isn’t too much to Aaron’s signature. When you first look at it it looks like a bunch of loops. But after a bit you can clearly see an “A” with some style. And the loops end up having this graffiti/tagging style to them. The other things that’s nice about his signature is that it has some size to it. I think my favorite of these cards might be the 2009 O-Pee-Chee.
Thanks Mr. Laffey! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
