The Story of the Autograph
Aaron Broten is a former center and left wing in the NHL. He played from 1980 to 1992 with the Colorado Rockies/New Jersey Devils, Minnesota North Stars, Quebec Nordiques, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Winnipeg Jets.
Broten is a native of Minnesota and is the brother of both Neal and Paul Broten. He stayed in state for college and went to Minnesota. While with Golden Gophers he was the NCAA scoring champion in the 1980-81 season. He was then drafted in the sixth round of the 1980 NFL Draft. He made his debut in the 1980-81 season.
In the first few years he bounced between the NHL and the lower leagues. But he stuck with the Colorado franchise as they moved to New Jersey and became the Devils for the 1982-83 season. Over the next several years he would have some pretty good seasons. He played 80 games four times, three seasons with 22 or more goals including two with a career high 26, and he also put up 50 assists in a season twice. His highest point seasons were in 1986-87 and 1987-88 with 79 and 83 points respectively.
After his time with the Devils he moved around quite a bit playing with five teams over the next three seasons, including an AHL team. He was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007.
The Score on Aaron Broten – 6.5
One thing I like automatically with this return from Aaron is that he changed markers while signing the cards. I guess he felt that the black went best with North Stars cards and the Maple Leafs should get blue. Makes sense to me I think. Unfortunately this is just another example of a busy hockey card not showing off the signature well, but there’s a good one in there I know it.
Thanks Mr. Broten! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
