The Story of the Autograph
George Wright is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 1982 to 1986 with the Texas Rangers and Montreal Expos.
Wright was born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Rangers drafted him out of high school in the fourth round of the 1977 MLB Draft. After several years in the minors he made his first MLB appearance on April 10, 1982. Once he broke in he immediately got playing time and mostly played centerfield.
His first year was pretty solid, but he broke out in his second year in the league. In 1983 he played in all 162 games and hit .276 with 18 homers and 80 RBI. That was a great year for the Rangers too as they surprised and were in first place at the All-Star break. But unfortunately he never matched the year he put together in ’83 again, some of that due to injuries.
He played his last game in the majors for the Expos on October 5, 1986. He tried to make it again with Montreal and San Francisco (who even traded him to the White Sox), but he never got back to the bigs. Before calling it a career he played a year in Japan with the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks in 1993 and spent time in the Mexican League.
The Score on George Wright – 6.0
I really dig George’s signature. I’m not sure I can say I understand it because I can tell what’s what in there, but it seems to have some style. One of the only problems with this return though is that he was definitely running out of marker strength by the time he got to my cards.
Thanks Mr. Wright! I’m giving this return a 6.
